Description

OUR CHANCE TO CHANGE: Demystifying the Legislative Process
Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016
10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
FREE to DRC members (lunch cost TBA)

Given the current dismal climate of accountability, this is our opportunity to shape the future of North Dakota. It’s our chance to change our government for the better. This training will help DRC members unlock their power as active citizens in all areas of North Dakota government, from local township boards to the state Legislature. Learning the roles, processes, and opportunities for involvement helps people from all walks of life feel more comfortable engaging together in one of the most accessible state governments in the nation.

TRAINING TOPICS

  • Understanding North Dakota’s system of government
  • How to influence state legislators
  • Getting your point across through testimony and speaking out
  • Holding elected officials accountable
  • Next steps to stay involved

The day will build your confidence to access our state government, with tools and techniques for lobbying, tips for testifying and being an effective spokesperson, and strategies for working together to hold elected officials accountable. Leave the training ready for the 2017 Legislative Session – and leave with a plan of engagement in mind.

The training is hosted by Dakota Resource Council in partnership with Western Organization of Resource Councils (WORC). Kevin Williams, Deputy Director of WORC, will facilitate the training with the assistance of DRC staff and members.

The cost is free for DRC members (lunch costs TBA).
